Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is reportedly keen to complete a move to Manchester United before the end of the January transfer window.

The France international has just 18 months remaining on his current deal at Selhurst Park and he has informed Palace officials that he has no intention of signing fresh terms at the club.

Juventus were widely tipped to secure a deal for Mateta before Transfer Deadline Day, however they saw an opening bid for the 28-year-old rejected and they have now reportedly moved onto alternative targets.

FootballTransfers understands that Mateta had agreed personal terms with Aston Villa, although Unai Emery’s side have now reached a full agreement to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Besiktas.

Transfer reporter IndyKaila has claimed that Mateta is now hoping that Man Utd will launch a late bid for his services before the end of the winter window. However, Michael Carrick’s side are yet to submit an offer for the Frenchman, despite long-standing interest in his signature.

If Man Utd do decide to pursue a deal for Mateta, it's likely that he would replace summer signing Benjamin Sesko as the club's first choice striker.

Oliver Glasner provides Jean-Philippe Mateta transfer update

While Mateta is reportedly eager to complete a move to Man Utd this month, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has denied reports suggesting the Frenchman has asked to leave

“He hasn’t handed in a transfer request and we have no bid received right now,” Glasner told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of Palace’s Premier League clash versus Chelsea on Sunday.

However, rumours of an exit persist and Glasner has even admitted that Palace will sell their star striker if they receive a suitable bid.

Speaking last week, he said: “There will be a price that Crystal Palace [accept], with 18 months left on his contract. We'd do the deal, if JP wants. If nobody pays that price, then he will stay.”
