The England U19 international spent the first half of the campaign at Sheffield Wednesday and he was one of the Owls’ standout performers amid a multitude of issues both on and off the field for the club.

However, Man Utd opted to bring him back to Old Trafford earlier this month and Norwich are now closing in on a loan agreement.

Norwich reporter Connor Southwell has confirmed that Philippe Clement’s side are the frontrunners to land Amass this month, with the Championship outfit eager to land a new left-back following injuries to Jeffrey Schlupp and Lucien Mahovo.

Amass registered two goal contributions in 21 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday before being recalled by Man Utd in early January, and he is set to become the first Red Devils player to complete a transfer this month.

Stoke City and Watford have also expressed their interest in landing the 18-year-old before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 2 February, but Norwich are now expected to win the race for his signature.

The Canaries are currently 20th in the Championship table, however their form has vastly improved since the appointment of Clement in late November and they have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.

Harry Amass close to joining Norwich

News that Amass is expected to join Norwich comes after Clement confirmed the club are set to back him in the transfer market this month.

“We're busy with several players and several positions and I hope we can get everything over the line, I know everybody's working hard on that,” he told reporters.

“We had a lot of talks also this week with several players and after the talks they were really interested in the project, this type of result will help also, because several players have the idea maybe, ‘Yes, but you're in a relegation spot and until the end of the season you are going to play relegation football and kick and rush because you're in trouble’.

“These games like this help also. So I hope this will help some players also over the line. We are busy with several guys.”
