Barcelona hold talks with Man Utd to CHANGE Marcus Rashford deal
Barcelona have spoken to Manchester United about changing the conditions of Marcus Rashford's purchase option, according to a report.
The England international has been a very good signing for the Blaugrana since belatedly joining on loan from Man Utd in the summer, six months after he had initially wanted to make the move.
Rashford has notched seven goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances for Barcelona thus far. Unsurprisingly, there is a desire from both parties to continue this successful relationship.
Barcelona have the option to make the 28-year-old's stint permanent for €30 million. However, this clause can't be exercised at this stage because of the club's ongoing financial uncertainty, as well as question marks over the future of Ansu Fati, the player who had to make way for Rashford.
Indeed, according to Ben Jacobs, Barcelona chiefs recently had a meeting with their Man Utd counterparts to try and push down Rashford's price. The Catalans also expressed an interest in a potential second loan with a conditional purchase obligation.
Barcelona want cheaper Rashford deal
Naturally, neither option really appeals to Man Utd. The Old Trafford club are intent on selling Rashford this summer, and they believe that this €30m fee is perfectly reasonable.
Rashford's current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €52.2 million, so triggering his clause appears to be a no-brainer. However, Barcelona nevertheless want to get a cheaper deal as they aim to be financially disciplined.
The reigning LaLiga champions have been emboldened in their efforts by the fact that Rashford is desperate to stay and not interested in joining any other club as things stand.
More discussions are set to take place closer to the end of the season, as this initial meeting yielded no resolution. Barcelona are ready to hand Rashford a long-term contract until 2029 should they manage to agree a deal to sign him permanently.
