Barcelona's new Rashford PROBLEM confirmed as star's commitment questioned
Barcelona may face complications in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United permanently, as a second source has confirmed that Ansu Fati's loan at Monaco has turned sour.
The two wingers' futures have been linked since Rashford tried to push through a loan move from Man Utd to Barcelona exactly one year ago. At the time, the LaLiga giants' finances did not allow the signing of the Englishman unless a player left.
The player earmarked to depart was Fati, but the former Spain international refused and instead wanted to fight for his place. This meant that Rashford's move had to be postponed to the summer.
Fati, after failing to break into the team in the second half of last season, accepted that he had to move on and joined Monaco to great fanfare in the previous window, paving the way for Rashford to finally get his move to Barcelona.
His loan at Monaco got off to a great start, with the 23-year-old repeatedly proving decisive in the early stages of the season. However, the situation could hardly be more different now, following the sacking of head coach Adi Hutter at the start of October.
Fati's commitment called into question
Hutter was replaced by Sebastien Pocognoli, which proved to be a turning point for Fati. He has struggled to see eye-to-eye with the new head coach, and his form has suffered as a result.
The winger has yet to contribute to a goal under the new boss, and his relationship with the Belgian hasn't been helped by the fact that he has been unavailable for the entirety of December due to a hamstring injury.
Last week, journalist Romain Molina revealed that trouble was brewing at Monaco. He claimed that the Principality club no longer want Fati, casting doubt on them exercising their €12 million purchase option, which in turn will affect Barcelona's ability to sign Rashford permanently.
Now, L'Equipe confirms that there is a major Fati problem at Monaco. His "daily commitment" is being called into question internally, and even teammates are said to be growing annoyed with the 23-year-old.
Centre-back Mohammed Salisu vented his frustration when he slammed his teammates for refusing to defend in Monaco's disappointing 2-2 draw with Pafos in the Champions League in November. The report claims that this outburst was aimed directly at Fati.
As such, major question marks loom over Fati heading into the new year. Unless he can manage to turn things around in the second half of the season, he is likely to be sent back to Barcelona.
