Arsenal have at least eight names on their January shortlist, according to a report.

The Gunners have been the Premier League's pace-setters for most of the season so far, but recent results have been hard-fought due to Mikel Arteta's squad being depleted by injuries.

Arsenal's depth, viewed as their biggest asset this season, has been severely tested, and it has therefore not been ruled out that more players will be added in the January window.

Mikel Arteta confirmed as much when he faced the press ahead of Monday night's clash with Aston Villa. The Spaniard said that Arsenal will be "actively looking" to do business in the upcoming window.

"The window is there, and I mean we are Arsenal, and we have to be looking at it," he said. "'Okay, what do we need?' And we have to be actively looking, and then, whether we can do it or not, that's a different story."

Arsenal's lengthy shortlist

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are planning to be "measured rather than reckless" in January, but they are nevertheless eyeing some ambitious targets.

The report claims that as many as eight players are being considered, with this long list headlined by the likes of Kenan Yildiz, Arda Guler and Ayyoub Bouaddi. All three are, however, seen as probably unattainable, so other names are also being explored.

For the midfield, Club Brugge talent Aleksandar Stankovic is admired, while wantaway Al-Hilal superstar Ruben Neves has been offered to the Gunners, as well as a whole host of other top European clubs.

In terms of the defence, Arsenal retain their interest in Stade Rennais wonderkid Jeremy Jacquet, having already tried to sign him in the summer. Honest Ahanor of Atalanta and left-back Davide Bartesaghi of AC Milan are also on the shortlist.

Surprisingly, the report makes no mention of Spain U21 international Rodrigo Mendoza, who has been heavily associated with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
