Man Utd make 'STRONG PUSH' for new midfielder after Anderson bombshell
Manchester United are making a "strong push" for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to a report.
The Red Devils are prioritising the signing of at least one marquee midfielder in 2026, but it is not a straightforward matter. Several players are on the club's shortlist, and all of them are hard to get.
Man Utd reportedly view Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson as their top target for the midfield, but recent reports have increasingly suggested that the England international is favouring a move to rivals Man City.
Anderson has doubts over a move to Old Trafford and would prefer to join the Etihad club instead, forcing Man Utd to reconsider their options. The 23-year-old's decision leaves Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba as the available top options.
There is no doubt over Baleba, who was already keen on joining the Red Devils last summer. The situation with Wharton is a bit trickier, as he has been quite vocal about his desire to join a Champions League club.
Man Utd make Wharton push
Man Utd have been much improved under interim boss Michael Carrick and are currently on course to achieve their objective of returning to Europe's premier competition, but they need to keep up this form for the rest of the season.
In the meantime, they are working to convince Wharton of a move to Old Trafford. According to TEAMtalk, Man Utd have stepped up their pursuit of the Crystal Palace star and are making a "strong push" for him.
However, as with Anderson, the competition is fierce. Wharton is also on City's radar, while there have been claims that Liverpool have moved "closer" to signing him. The report acknowledges that the Reds are "aggressive suitors" for the 21-year-old.
It is claimed that there is an acceptance at Selhurst Park that Wharton will leave in the summer, despite the fact that captain Marc Guehi has already departed and that Palace will also lose coach Oliver Glasner and star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Palace won't make life easy for his admirers, however. The report posits that the Eagles could hold out for over €100 million, as there is real potential for a bidding war.
