Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea transfer for forgotten star
Chelsea could finally resolve one of their longest transfer problems in the coming days, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Axel Disasi is set to follow Raheem Sterling out the exit door at Stamford Bridge.
Disasi has been a forgotten figure at Chelsea, having been relegated to the club’s reserves during the summer and failing to agree a move away from the club.
Chelsea were forced to terminate the remaining 18 months of Sterling’s contract earlier this week but Disasi’s deal is set to run until 2029, meaning the club would not be able to release the Frenchman without taking a serious dent in their finances.
However, Romano revealed that Disasi is close to joining West Ham on loan until the end of the season, with talks advanced and accelerating to a final stage.
The deal would remove Disasi’s wages off the books for the remainder of the season and potentially give the 27-year-old an opportunity to resurrect his career after a disastrous time with Chelsea.
Disasi had been linked with a move to clubs in Italy but Romano has claimed that a deal was never close, leaving West Ham in pole position to seal the transfer ahead of Monday’s deadline.
Disasi set for new start after failing to revive Chelsea career
Disasi joined Chelsea on a six-year contract from Monaco for €45 million in 2023 but an inconsistent first season saw him eventually left him out in the cold and he made just six Premier League appearances last season after being told he had no future at the club.
The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa but only made seven league appearances, while a move to former club Monaco failed to materialise during the summer.
There had been some suggestion that Disasi would feature for Chelsea amid their injury crisis in defence this season but then-manager Enzo Maresca insisted there was no hope for a reconciliation.
With new boss Liam Rosenior also seemingly not willing to bring him back into the first team squad, Disasi is now set to join West Ham and provide depth to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as they battle relegation.
