Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Chelsea’s Palmer MESSAGE, Liverpool EMERGENCY, Rashford UPDATE
Fabrizio Romano has delivered his latest transfer news updates from around the market, touching on headline stories regarding Chelsea, Cole Palmer to Manchester United, Liverpool’s unexpected crisis and Marcus Rashford.
Chelsea agree two players can go
Chelsea might not have made any major signings in January, but the Stamford Bridge side continue to juggle their squad.
Romano told his YouTube channel:
“After Chelsea agreed terms with Raheem Sterling to leave the club immediately. An old player – with maximum respect to Raheem Sterling, who is a great player but in the final stages of his career – then there is a very young player who is going to leave Chelsea on loan. That player is Kendry Paez.
“The Ecuadorian talent who was on loan at Strasbourg has been recalled by Chelsea. The idea with BlueCo is very clear. Kendy Paez returns to Chelsea and will go on loan to River Plate. It’s a here we go.
“It’s a straight loan deal for a season-long deal. It’s already been authorised by Kendry Paez, and Chelsea have told him he can travel for medical tests and signing. It’s the surprising deal of the day.”
Rosenior sends clear Palmer message to Man Utd
One player who Chelsea do not want to see leave is Cole Palmer, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent times.
“Chelsea did their job in the Champions League. And don’t forget the message coming from Liam Rosenior after the match. In England, in the last couple of weeks, we’ve had many rumours about Cole Palmer being unsettled or having problems at Chelsea, he wants to play for Manchester United,” Romano explained.
“Before the game, Rosenior said Palmer is happy and untouchable but after the game he said, by himself, that Cole Palmer in the dressing room was looking like a very happy guy. The message coming from Chelsea is very clear: Cole Palmer is considered an absolutely key part of the project.
“There’s absolutely nothing ongoing in terms of contracts and problems. But things can happen. As of today, they have got zero coming from Cole Palmer’s camp.
“If someday they decided to part ways, it would take a crazy amount of money – but really crazy.”
Liverpool to buy as injury crisis deepens?
Arne Slot is facing a potential right-back crisis at Liverpool, with Jeremie Frimpong joining Connor Bradley on the sidelines.
Romano said: “There’s a new injury for Jeremie Frimpong. In the first three or four minutes, he suffered an injury against Qarabag. Right after the game, Arne Slot said that Liverpool are thinking about the long term – he was saying that Liverpool can’t have so many players for the same position.
“Liverpool have already assessed potential options at right-back when Conor Bradley suffered his injury against Arsenal. At that time, they felt there were no good right-backs to sign in this transfer window. That’s why Liverpool didn’t open any concrete negotiations. Let’s see if they find a good solution. Now the emergency is different.”
Flick doubles down on Rashford
At Barcelona, they are plotting to keep on-loan Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
“Hansi Flick is in love with Rashford,” Romano confirmed.
“After he scored a goal for Barcelona, he sent a message about his speed, his quality, he’s adding something to the squad. So Barcelona’s intention is to find a way to keep Rashford. At the moment, there’s still nothing communicated with Man Utd. They’ll do that later this year. But what’s also true is that Marcus Rashford and Barca are very happy together.”
Atletico Madrid eye big late moves
Sticking in Spain, Romano looked at potential late movements at Atletico Madrid, but explained that if Diego Simeone is to get his man, he needs something of a minor miracle.
“Keep an eye on Atletico Madrid. They have January interest in Leon Goretzka. And Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany doesn’t want to lose any player this month. There was Inter interest in Kim Min-jae but he said no. Now for Goretzka, but he’s out of contract in the summer,” Romano said.
“Atletico Madrid want the player. There’s a conversation between the player and Atleti, but let’s see what Bayern do. He’s not the only name on Atletico Madrid’s list.
“Goretzka shares the same agency as Ademola Lookman. He’s one to watch in the final days to watch of the January transfer window.”
