Chelsea send OFFICIAL Enzo Fernandez message to Real Madrid
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior insists that he wants to work with Enzo Fernandez "long term" amid persistent links with Real Madrid.
The Argentina international endured a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge following his record-breaking €121 million transfer from Benfica in January 2023, but he is now regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
Fernandez has been brilliant for Chelsea in the last couple of seasons, and this has earned him the admiration of Europe's biggest hitters. For months, Real Madrid have been linked with the 25-year-old.
More recently, PSG have also been added to his list of admirers, although a move to France wouldn't be without controversy due to the post-2022 World Cup feud between Argentina and Les Bleus. Fernandez was previously recorded singing a racist, anti-French song for which he has apologised.
Despite the interest, Chelsea are in a strong position regarding the future of their midfield maestro, as Fernandez still has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032. However, his commitment to the Blues has often been questioned.
Rosenior: Fernandez speculation means nothing to me
The midfielder is an emotional character, and even his own father admitted that he was unhappy at Chelsea before the West London outfit won the Conference League and the Club World Cup. Fernandez joined Chelsea because he wanted to compete for the biggest trophies in football.
The departure of Enzo Maresca has reportedly not gone down well with the 25-year-old, and there are concerns that Chelsea are backsliding into the pre-Maresca state of anarchy. Fernandez and other Chelsea players believe that the Italian's exit was a setback for the project.
However, new Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior insists that the speculation over the future of Fernandez "means nothing" to him. He wants to keep the Argentine at the club for the foreseeable future.
"It means nothing to me," he said at his press conference on Tuesday. "When you're a world-class player, there is always going to be speculation you cannot control.
"Enzo has been outstanding in the time I have worked with him. He was ill on Saturday, the way he covered the ground, it surprised me. He's a Chelsea player. I hope we're going to have a successful working relationship in the long-term and short-term."
