Marseille are in talks with Arsenal over a six-month loan deal for Ethan Nwaneri, according to football transfer news expert David Ornstein.

Nwaneri, 18, has only racked up 515 minutes of action across all competitions so far this season and he has been heavily linked with a temporary departure before the end of the January transfer window.

The England U21 international was tipped to complete a short-term move to Bournemouth this month, but he reportedly rejected the chance to join Andoni Iraola’s side in favour of remaining at the Emirates Stadium.

However, he could now be set to join Marseille until the end of the 2025-26 season, as per Ornstein.

It’s reported that Marseille are currently working on a deal to sign Nwaneri on a six-month loan, although an agreement has not yet been reached.

Arsenal would be set to receive a loan fee if the proposed deal goes through, but Marseille will not have the option to make the deal permanent this summer.

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly held positive talks with both Nwaneri and Mikel Arteta, and the Englishman is expected to make a decision on the transfer shortly.

Ethan Nwaneri to join Marseille?

Nwaneri enjoyed a successful breakthrough campaign in 2024-25, making 37 first-team appearances across all competitions amid an injury crisis in north London.

However, he has found opportunities far harder to come by this term following the summer additions of Noni Madueke from Chelsea and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

The England U21 starlet hasn’t played a single Premier League minute since Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in late November, while he has been excluded from the Gunners’ last four matchday squads in the English top flight.

As a result, talk of a January exit has intensified in recent weeks and Marseille are now pushing to beat fellow suitors Chelsea to his signature.
