Leeds United have reached an agreement to sign Facundo Buonanotte on loan for the remainder of the season, with his temporary spell at Chelsea set to conclude as a result.

The Argentina attacking midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan deal on Transfer Deadline Day last summer, but he has been unable to establish as a regular for the Blues, despite Cole Palmer’s injury problems this campaign.

Buonanotte has started four of Chelsea’s five matches across the FA Cup and Carabao Cup so far this season, however a 45-minute appearance versus Brentford in September is the only time he has featured in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old was signed as an emergency back-up following Chelsea’s failure to land Morgan Rogers, Xavi Simons or Fermin Lopez over the summer, and the club have now reached an agreement for him to depart Stamford Bridge in January.

That is according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Leeds United reach verbal agreement to sign Facundo Buonanotte!

“Chelsea to interrupt loan move from Brighton, leaving Chelsea to return to Brighton and then join Leeds. Move to Leeds will be on loan until the end of the season. Here we go, soon.”

Facundo Buonanotte to leave Chelsea

Buonanotte will become the first Chelsea player to leave the club during the January transfer window, with the Blues also eager to offload Tyrique George, Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi before Deadline Day.

The Argentine played 69 minutes during Liam Rosenior's first match in charge against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday, but he is now set to leave Chelsea after an unsuccessful loan spell in west London.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will look to sign a new attacking midfielder before the end of the winter window or if they will retain trust in the current options at Rosenior's disposal.
