Enzo Fernandez's Chelsea future decided after Real Madrid bombshell
Enzo Fernandez looks set to stay at Chelsea for the foreseeable future following Real Madrid’s latest transfer decision.
The Argentina international, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023, has been heavily linked with a Los Blancos switch over the past 12 months amid their desperate pursuit of a new central midfielder.
Xabi Alonso’s side failed to sign a suitable replacement for Luka Modric last summer and they have ramped up internal talks over a new signing as they look to significantly bolster their options in the middle of the park in 2026.
Several top-quality midfielders have been linked with a Bernabeu move in recent months, including Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Kees Smit (AZ Alkmaar), Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart) and Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United).
However, Fernandez has often been labelled as Real Madrid’s priority target, with Florentino Perez keen to bring him to the Spanish capital after missing out on his signature to Chelsea following the Qatar World Cup.
Despite this, the west London giants are in a strong negotiating position thanks to the fact that Fernandez’s contract doesn’t expire until 2032 and that he has shown no desire to leave the club, despite their recent struggles.
Furthermore, Real Madrid now appear to have turned their attention to finalising a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, as per Fichajes.
Real Madrid chase Fabian Ruiz deal
Ruiz, 29, only has 18 months remaining on his current deal at PSG and Luis Enrique’s side are reportedly willing to sanction a sale in order to avoid losing the Spaniard on a free transfer in 2027.
Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray have been monitoring his situation for a while, according to Fichajes, while Real Madrid have now registered their interest in the ex-Napoli man as they look to sign at least one new midfielder this year.
In fact, initial talks with PSG are reportedly underway as Real Madrid look to secure Ruiz’s signature after accepting defeat in their bid for Fernandez.
