Chelsea bombshell: Blues eye shock January deal for Liverpool star
Chelsea have reportedly been made aware of the potential availability of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones before the winter transfer window closes on 2 February.
The Blues are eager to bolster their options in the middle of the park by the end of Deadline Day due to the injury woes of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo, and Jones has been earmarked as a potential shock target.
That is according to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, who has revealed that Liam Rosenior’s have been informed that Jones could be available to leave Anfield. The west London giants are reportedly keeping close tabs on the situation and could launch a surprise pursuit before the winter window slams shut.
Jones has just 18 months remaining on his current Liverpool contract and although the Reds are eager to tie him down to fresh terms, they are yet to reach a final agreement with the 24-year-old.
Tottenham Hotspur have also been heavily linked with a move for the England international in recent weeks, although rumours of a move to the north London outfit have died down following their decision to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
Douglas Luiz update
News that Chelsea are monitoring Jones’ situation at Liverpool comes amid the club’s talks with Juventus over a short-term deal for Douglas Luiz, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.
The Brazilian has failed to work his way into Sean Dyche’s preferred starting XI at The City Ground and Chelsea are eager for his temporary spell at Forest to be cut short in order for him to complete a six-month loan move to west London.
It’s reported that Luiz is ready to accept Chelsea’s proposal, although Juventus are eager for the deal to include an option-to-buy clause and this has emerged as a major obstacle to overcome.
Chelsea, by contrast, want Luiz to cover for the absences of the aforementioned Lavia and Essugo, but rumours indicate they aren’t interested in landing him on a permanent deal.
