Confirmed: Arsenal in talks over late January transfer
Arsenal remain in talks with Oleksandr Zinchenko ahead of a possible permanent move to Eredivisie giants Ajax before the end of the January transfer window.
The Ukraine international is currently on loan at Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest, but negotiations over a mid-season exit are ongoing as Arsenal look to offload him before this summer.
Zinchenko has just six months remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium and he will therefore leave the Gunners on a Bosman deal this summer if a winter transfer falls through.
The 29-year-old has only made five Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest so far this season, partly due to a groin issue, and Ola Aina’s return to full fitness has pushed him further down the pecking order under Sean Dyche.
As a result, Arsenal are in talks over terminating his temporary spell at The City Ground, although an agreement is complicated by the fact that Zinchenko’s loan deal doesn’t include a January break clause.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side remain in discussions with the Ukraine star as they look to finalise an agreement with both Ajax and Nottingham Forest.
That is according to Sky Sports, who report that Zinchenko has already travelled to Amsterdam to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to the Netherlands. It’s understood that he will sign a six-month contract with Ajax, although the deal is currently on hold amid negotiations with Arsenal.
Oleksandr Zinchenko close to joining Ajax
Zinchenko hasn’t been included in Nottingham Forest’s last two matchday squads in the Premier League and it has been reported that he has already said goodbye to his current team-mates ahead of his proposed move to Ajax.
The Ukraine star will become the second Arsenal player to secure a January transfer if he joins Ajax, following Ethan Nwaneri’s move to Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille on a six-month loan deal.
He will also become Ajax’s third winter signing following the arrivals of his former Arsenal team-mate Takehiro Tomiyasu and Maximilian Ibrahimovic, who is the son of Sweden legend Zlatan.
