Arsenal in talks to sign Spanish wonderkid
Arsenal and Real Madrid are among the clubs to have enquired about Granada sensation Owen Emeka.
The 17-year-old is in his first season of proper senior football after entering the second-division side's first team towards the end of last season. Emeka made a matchday squad in May but did not get on the pitch for Granada.
Now, however, the Spain youth international is becoming an increasingly important part of the side. Up until the weekend, Emeka had featured in all of Granada's games. He missed the clash with FC Andorra last Saturday due to his international commitments.
Emeka was away with Spain's U18s. He set up a goal in a 2-1 win over the Ivory Coast and then started in a 3-1 victory over Brazil. A right-winger by trade, the teenager is in the process of making a real name for himself in Spain.
He bagged his first goal for Granada in a 1-1 draw with Albacete last month and is going from strength to strength, so much so that he is already fielding interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Arsenal make Emeka enquiry
According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid have made enquiries into the availability of Emeka. However, for now, the player is keen to continue his development in Andalusia.
"He's going to sign a new contract with Granada," Moretto told Radio MARCA. "Last season, he had offers from important clubs, but he refused to leave Granada and decided to renew his contract."
"[Real Madrid] explored this possible signing, but it didn't materialise, and Emeka decided to renew. There are clubs that are following him closely. Everton, Newcastle, and Arsenal enquired about him."
Emeka signed a long-term deal until 2031 in April, but it seems that Granada want to reward his explosive development with even better terms. However, his new contract shouldn't prove too problematic for Premier League clubs.
He wouldn't be able to relocate to England until next summer anyway. Emeka turns 18 in April, thus ruling out a move to the UK in January. Besides Spain, the winger can also represent Nigeria on the international stage due to his mother.
