The next Tyler Adams? Premier League clubs chase USMNT midfielder
Premier League clubs are chasing Olympique Lyon and USMNT midfielder Tanner Tessmann, according to L’Équipe.
The 24-year-old American midfielder has 12 caps to his name, and he has two goals in 20 appearances for Lyon in all competitions this season.
Lyon are in advanced talks to sign midfielder Himad Abdelli from Angers in January, which would allow Tessmann to leave.
The FC Dallas academy product joined Lyon from Venezia ahead of the 2024/25 season, and he has scored three goals since joining the French giants.
Tessmann's Possible Suitors
Tessmann is a 6-foot-3, well-rounded box-to-box midfielder.
His size, paired with his ability to switch the play and pass the ball long, could make him an attractive target for teams in the bottom half of the Premier League.
Tessmann’s 0.87 switches of play per 90 minutes puts him in the top 5% of midfielders in the major European leagues, and his long pass completion percentage of 70.6% is in the top 25% of midfielders.
He wins just under 50% of his duels, but he is active in a low block (2.19 clearances per 90, 81st percentile) and brave enough to step in front of shots (0.52 shots blocked per 90; 89th percentile).
The Birmingham, Alabama native also has the drive to get forward and help his team attack. He averages 1.42 shots, 1.80 shot-creating actions, and 0.16 non-penalty expected goals plus expected assists per match.
With an xTV of €12.8 million, Tessmann could be a value replacement for Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace.
He could also help teams like Brentford or Bournemouth, who are near the top of the league in long pass attempts and progressive passes, or Burnley or Fulham, who lead the league in switches of play.
