Hojlund takes aim at Man Utd on social media as loanee makes cryptic post over future
Rasmus Hojlund fired a thinly-veiled shot to Manchester United on social media after helping Napoli win the Italian Super Cup and secure his first trophy at the club.
Hojlund joined Napoli on loan during the summer, with the Serie A champions having an obligation to make his move permanent for €44 million if they qualify for the Champions League.
Having been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, Hojlund has enjoyed a new lease on life in Naples, with four goals and two assists in 11 league matches, and he played 90 minutes as Napoli beat Bologna 2-0 on Monday to lift the Super Cup.
Following the match, Hojlund took to social media to post a picture of him holding the trophy with the caption ‘what a great decision looks like’, suggesting he had no regrets of leaving United.
Hojlund joined United for €78m in 2023 but the youngster was immediately forced to adapt as the club’s senior starting striker, however he struggled in the role and was made available for transfer after scoring just four league goals last season.
The Danish international has continued the trend of seeing ex-United stars flourish after leaving the club, with Napoli teammate Scott McTominay also thriving, although not every player has enjoyed success after leaving the Red Devils.
Hojlund and Sancho mark polarising fortunes for Man Utd loanees
While Hojlund is enjoying his time away, Jadon Sancho has barely featured during his loan spell at Aston Villa and the 25-year-old also took to social media to vent his feelings.
Sancho has played just 128 minutes of Premier League action this season and it is a foregone conclusion that the winger will leave United on a free when his contract expires in the summer, marking a disastrous end to his €85m transfer.
The England star made a rare post on Instagram with a number of pictures and cryptic captions such as ‘you gotta serve a purpose to be around me in my new season. It’s real personal’, while another said ‘Distance. Silence. Peace'.
“Jadon is still young, he has had an amazing career and is now in a moment where he needs help to recover his best performance,” Villa boss Unai Emery said last week.
“Of course, he is not playing all the minutes I think he has to. But in the second part of the season, I believe in him. He is really being demanding [of] himself to try to get his best moment this season with us.
“He has that challenge with me and himself, and with the club as well. I believe in him and hopefully we can get it.”
