Man Utd in talks to SELL star to Real Madrid after Amorim criticism
Manchester United director Jason Wilcox is "discussing" the future of Diogo Dalot amid interest from Real Madrid, according to a report.
The Portugal international is one of the longest-serving players currently at Man Utd, but he has recently come in for a bit of criticism. Following the Red Devils' disappointing loss to Everton, Ruben Amorim publicly admitted that Dalot does not offer much going forward.
Ironically, he then went and scored against West Ham, but his general lack of attacking output is a problem for the coach, given that the wing-backs in his system are so important. It explains why he has often favoured Amad Diallo this season despite his obvious defensive deficiencies.
Nevertheless, Dalot is a senior voice in the dressing room and one of Amorim's biggest allies behind the scenes. In fact, it was recently claimed that the two are distant relatives.
Be that as it may, Dalot's future is now the subject of speculation. Real Madrid, who were already previously linked with the 26-year-old, are once again being associated with him.
Man Utd to axe Dalot?
TEAMtalk claims that Man Utd director Jason Wilcox is "discussing" the long-term future of Dalot, with both a contract extension or a potential sale currently distinct possibilities.
Man Utd are aware of the interest in the Portuguese, and Real Madrid are explicitly named as suitors. Despite the summer signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Los Blancos are keeping close tabs on Dalot due to Dani Carvajal's age.
The fact that Dalot can play multiple positions also makes him attractive to other clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, his representatives have supposedly approached Man Utd to gauge whether contract talks could be on the agenda for 2026.
Dalot's current terms still run until 2028 with the option for a further season, so Man Utd are in no rush to grant him his wish, especially as it would likely entail a pay increase. Wilcox is generally happy with Dalot, but it seems that he would be open to doing business at the right price.
