Five possible replacements for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah appears destined to leave Liverpool next year amid his high-profile feud with head coach Arne Slot.
The Egypt legend launched a shock tirade at the Reds manager after being named on the substitutes bench for a third consecutive Premier League match on Saturday and he has been omitted from Liverpool’s squad to face Inter in the Champions League this week as a result.
Slot was eager to avoid sparking fresh debate over Salah’s future during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game, however the 33-year-old has been widely criticised for his actions and Liverpool are expected to sell him in 2026.
Salah has even hinted that a January exit could be on the cards, with several Saudi Pro League clubs interested in finalising a deal.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through five players Liverpool could sign to replace Salah if he leaves the club next year.
Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)
It has been widely reported that Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo is Liverpool’s preferred candidate to replace Salah in 2026.
The Ghana international has enjoyed a fantastic start to the new Premier League season, registering nine goal contributions in 14 games, and his form has alerted every ‘big-six’ team in the English top flight, with the exception of Chelsea.
Liverpool are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature and a deal could take place in January due to a €74m release clause in his current Bournemouth contract.
Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)
Michael Olise has been linked with a move back to the Premier League ever since his transfer to Bayern Munich was confirmed last summer, with Liverpool continuously touted as a possible destination.
The 23-year-old has solidified his status as one of the world’s most talented players during his time at the Allianz Arena and Liverpool have earmarked him as a possible dream signing for 2026.
However, Bayern have no intention of sanctioning a sale and it would therefore take a remarkable offer to bring Olise to Anfield.
Rodrygo (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with a move to the Premier League for several months and a transfer away from the Bernabeu is now expected to take place next year.
The Brazil star has fallen down the pecking order since the appointment of Xabi Alonso and Los Blancos are reportedly willing to let him depart the club if they receive a bid worth €70m.
Rodrygo hasn’t scored a club goal since March, but he has top-level European pedigree and Liverpool could bank on his potential given Real Madrid are open to a sale.
Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig)
RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande has emerged as Liverpool’s latest transfer target amid his eye-catching form in the Bundesliga.
The Ivory Coast international is capable of playing as either a left or a right winger and he has already notched seven goals and four assists in 15 matches this season.
Widespread reports have confirmed that Liverpool scouts are closely monitoring Diomande’s development and they are eyeing a possible move for the 19-year-old in January.
Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)
The final player who could potentially replace Salah at Liverpool has been linked with a move to Anfield for years: Jarrod Bowen.
The England star seems somewhat destined to remain at West Ham for the remainder of his career, with rumours of a high-profile exit to a top Premier League club dying down in recent months.
However, the West Ham captain continues to perform exceptionally well for the east London outfit and Liverpool could do far worse than pursuing a deal for the 28-year-old.
