Chelsea have held talks to beat Manchester City to a transfer in the hopes of getting revenge on Bayern Munich for poaching Jamal Musiala from their academy.

Musiala had been on the books of Chelsea since the age of eight before joining Bayern in 2019 as a 16-year-old and robbing the Blues of a player who has gone onto become one of the standout stars in Europe.

However, the tables could be turned on Bayern, with The Mirror reporting that they may end up losing Cassiano Kiala to the Premier League after the 16-year-old’s father flew to England to hold talks with Chelsea and Manchester City over a move for his son.

Kiala is considered one of Bayern’s most promising youngsters and he has been an unused substitute in seven matches for Vincent Kompany’s team this season, having also been part of the German side’s Club World Cup squad over the summer.

It is alleged that super-agent Jorge Mendes was in Munich last week to meet Kiala’s family, with his agency set to handle the youngster’s future, leading to the player’s father flying out to London on Friday to hold private discussions with City and Chelsea.

Talks are described as being centred around ‘building a relationship for the future’, with Brexit rules preventing Kiala from joining a Premier League side until he is 18 in January 2027, while City are suggested to be pushing the hardest to sign him.

Bayern desperate to avoid losing latest homegrown talent to Premier League

Kiala’s contract with Bayern expires in the summer of 2027, six months after he turns 18, but the Bundesliga champions are keen to keep hold of their prized youngster ‘at all costs’.

Bayern are said to have ‘huge confidence’ that Kiala will become a first-team regular, while the club are also pushing to integrate more homegrown talent in the hopes of creating more stars and role models such as Musiala and Lennart Karl, who has had a breakout season this year.

Kiala has been praised for his technical ability and speed, while he has also impressed his Bayern teammates, with defender Jonathan Tah speaking highly of the youngster following his performances in pre-season.

"He absolutely has that,” Tah said when asked whether Kiala had the quality to help Bayern succeed this season. “He's fast, good with the ball, and brave. He's a top-class centre-back."
