The 22-year-old has caught the eye after registering an incredible 10 goals and 16 assists for Swedish outfit Djurgarden in 2026.

After teeing up Jeppe Okkels in the draw with Orgryte on Saturday, Hegland set a new record for the most assists (16) in a single Allsvenskan season.

And his form has not gone unnoticed, with SPORT claiming La Liga giants Barcelona have conducted scouting missions on Hegland this year.

Asked about the links to Barcelona, Hegland told Norwegian outlet TV2 - via SPORT - on Saturday: “It’s a great compliment that people follow you.”

The Norway Under-21 international added: “It’s a sign that you’re doing things well. I see it as nothing other than a great compliment.”

Hegland had the chance to join Belgium side Anderlecht in the summer but opted to stay with Djurgarden, who are second in the Swedish top flight.

Asked about his decision to reject the advances of Anderlecht, Hegland continued: “I’m not going to comment on that.

“But this summer, I felt confident that I have a lot of potential in the Allsvenskan and that I can still improve a great deal. I’m very happy with my situation.”

The attacking midfielder, who stands at 6ft 1in tall, is contracted to Djurgarden until 2029.

Hegland could become first male player to represent Barcelona

Hegland joined Djurgarden from Swedish side Moss in June 2025 and has posted 12 goals and 19 assists in 33 games for his current club.

If Hegland were to join Barcelona in the future, he would become the first Norwegian male to represent the club.

Three Norwegian women have played for Barcelona including current winger Caroline Graham Hansen and Ingrid Engen, who joined Lyon in June 2025.

Norway Under-19 international Martine Fenger also turned out for Barcelona Femeni before joining Frauen-Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the summer.

Hansen, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, was on the scoresheet as Barcelona Femeni beat Granada 3-0 in Liga F on Saturday.

Barcelona men, meanwhile, will entertain Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the season at Spotify Camp Nou this evening.
