Chelsea react to disappointing Delap form with €50m move for striker 'dreaming' of transfer
Chelsea are ready to pounce on one of the most prolific strikers in Europe who is reportedly ‘dreaming’ of a move after Enzo Maresca’s struggles to get consistent goals from his front line.
The Blues spent nearly €100 million to revamp their number nine options during the summer but Liam Delap has yet to score in seven Premier League appearances, while Joao Pedro has just two goals in his last 14 matches across all competitions.
Although only two teams have scored more times than Chelsea in the league, the club are still keeping tabs on strikers knowing that a reliable source of goals up front could turn them into serious title contenders.
And the West London side have been handed a golden opportunity to sign one of Europe’s standout goalscorers after learning that they are one of seven clubs who could activate Serhou Guirassy’s €50m release clause next summer.
According to BILD, Chelsea have enquired about Guirassy’s future at Dortmund, while the 28-year-old is described as ‘dreaming’ of securing a lucrative contract at the peak of his career.
However, Guirassy has ‘ruled out’ the prospect of leaving Dortmund in January and ‘things will only get serious’ in the summer, at which point he will either prioritise a move to a ‘European powerhouse’ or take an ‘astronomical offer’ from Saudi Arabia.
Guirassy ready to take next step to Europe’s elite
Having spent the early part of his career as a journeyman in France and Germany, Guirassy broke out during the 2023/24 season when he scored 28 goals in as many Bundesliga games for Stuttgart.
The Guinean’s form earned him an €18m move to Dortmund in 2024 where he continued his fine form by scoring 38 times in his debut campaign, including 13 goals in 14 games in the Champions League.
Guirassy has netted nine times in all competitions so far this season and the striker is considered ‘highly unlikely’ to stay at Dortmund beyond this campaign, although he is committed to building on his fine record for the German side until then.
It was revealed last month that Guirassy’s release clause would allow seven teams – Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool – to sign him on a cut-price deal next summer.
