Arsenal prepare damaging raid on European giants for two wonderkids
Arsenal are interested in AC Milan youngsters Lorenzo Torriani and Davide Bartesaghi, according to Italian media.
After a summer of lavish spending on ready-made first-teamers, Arsenal are looking to switch up their transfer strategy. Going forward, the focus of director Andrea Berta and incoming scouting guru Maurizio Micheli will be on bringing in prospects for the future.
The signing of the Ecuadorian Quintero twins, Edwin and Holger, last week illustrated the Gunners' new approach. 20-year-old Elche midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza could become the North London club's first January signing, with Berta reportedly ready to trigger his €20 million release clause.
Now, reports suggest that Berta and Micheli are also looking closer to their native Italy for potential wonderkids, specifically at AC Milan. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are keeping a close eye on breakout talent Davide Bartesaghi.
The 19-year-old left-back has forced his way into Massimiliano Allegri's starting lineup and even notched a brace in Milan's 2-2 draw with Sassuolo at the weekend.
Arsenal also want Torriani
In addition to Bartesaghi, Arsenal are also keen on goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, who has to date made two senior appearances for the Rossoneri. He primarily plays for the reserve side in Serie D.
Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato both claim that the Gunners were left impressed by the 20-year-old when he saved three penalties in a pre-season friendly clash between the two clubs.
Torriani is set to discuss his future with Milan in 2026. It is possible that he is given a chance to shine should Mike Maignan leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.
However, if Milan manage to convince the Frenchman to stay, Torriani will likely feel that his pathway to the first team is blocked, which could prompt him to look for a move elsewhere.
Whether a transfer to Arsenal would be advisable, given David Raya's role as the undisputed No.1, is up for debate. Nevertheless, the Gunners are said to have made a "serious enquiry" for him.
