TRANSFER RUMOURS: Man Utd chase blockbuster deal as Chelsea talks confirmed
The January transfer window is nearly open and several blockbuster deals are expected to be finalised next month.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through the biggest transfer rumours and gossip from 16 December, including the latest updates on Antoine Semenyo and Cassiano Kiala.
Man Utd want Antoine Semenyo
Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly both firmly in the race to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the upcoming January transfer window.
The Ghana international has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 15 Premier League appearances so far this season, and he has been widely tipped to leave Andoni Iraola’s side next month amid significant transfer interest from across the English top flight.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both eager to land the 25-year-old, while Sky Sports have now confirmed that Man City and Man Utd are also battling to acquire his signature in January.
Chelsea chase Jamal Musiala revenge
Chelsea have held talks to beat Manchester City to a transfer in the hopes of getting revenge on Bayern Munich for poaching Jamal Musiala from their academy.
Musiala had been on the books of Chelsea since the age of eight before joining Bayern in 2019 as a 16-year-old and robbing the Blues of a player who has gone onto become one of the standout stars in Europe.
However, the tables could be turned on Bayern, with The Mirror reporting that Vincent Kompany’s side may end up losing Cassiano Kiala to the Premier League after the 16-year-old’s father flew to England to hold talks with Chelsea and Man City over a potential move.
Lionel Messi request
Lionel Messi has reportedly asked Inter Miami to complete the signings of Atletico Madrid duo Antoine Griezmann and Koke next year.
Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets both opted to retire following the conclusion of the 2025 MLS season, while speculation suggests that Luis Suarez could follow suit, with the Uruguay star now a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the campaign.
In response, Inter Miami have already announced the signing of Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon as a replacement for Alba, and Messi is now eager for the club to land Koke and Griezmann to fill the voids left by Busquets and Suarez, as per Fichajes.
Celtic target two January signings
Celtic are reportedly eager to sign Cruz Azul midfielder Mateusz Bogusz and CFR Cluj striker Louis Munteanu during the upcoming January transfer window.
Wilfried Nancy has become the first Celtic manager in history to lose all three of their opening games in charge, following defeats to Hearts, Roma and St Mirren, and the owners are aware they need to dip into their pockets in January in order to retain their Scottish Premiership title.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Bogusz and Munteanu have been earmarked as the club’s two priority targets for the winter window.
