Guardiola set to ruin Man Utd transfer plans as Man City push for £100m target
Manchester City will look to beat rivals Manchester United to one of Ruben Amorim’s top transfer targets in a battle that could breach the €100 million mark next summer.
United are looking to invest heavily in their midfield and have identified the likes of Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba as potential targets to splash the cash on.
They are also said to be keen on Elliot Anderson but the Daily Mail report that City are ready to make the Nottingham Forest star one of their own top targets for 2026.
Anderson has been a revelation for Forest since joining from Newcastle last summer for €41m and the 23-year-old is expected to be a big part of England’s squad at the World Cup next year.
Pep Guardiola and City director of football Hugo Viana are described as ‘big admirers’ of Anderson and their scouts have watched a number of Forest matches in recent months in the hopes that he could be their next big midfield addition.
City had previously considered Wharton as a target but they are believed to prefer Anderson over the Crystal Palace playmaker and feel the opportunity to sign a young England international is too good to pass up.
Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool all set to make £100m approach for Anderson
Anderson has been praised for his all-round play since arriving at Forest, having excelled as a passer and defensive player, while also displaying impressive intelligence in the middle of the park.
Consequently, Premier League teams are reportedly aware that it could take more than £80m (€91m) to sign Anderson but Forest are only likely to consider offers closer to £100m (€114m).
Forest will also resist any offers for Anderson in January and will only consider his sale next summer, when Liverpool are also expected to rival City and United for his signature.
Newcastle are also desperate to bring back a player they only sold on the cheap for PSR reasons but they are resigned to missing out on him due to to the price tag being above their current scope.
