'I'm not satisfied' - Top Man Utd target drops MAJOR transfer hint
Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher has admitted that he is “not satisfied” with his game time so far this season amid interest from Manchester United.
The former Chelsea star has only racked up 545 minutes of action from a possible 1,440 since the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign, while he hasn’t started a match in any competition for two months.
Gallagher played a key role under Diego Simeone during his debut season at the Wanda Metropolitano, following his arrival from Chelsea, but he has now fallen down the pecking order and rumours of a return to England have intensified in recent weeks.
Tottenham Hotspur are known admirers of the 25-year-old, after attempting to finalise a deal last summer, however Man Utd are the leading contenders for his signature after identifying him as a top target amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder.
Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson are also on the Red Devils’ radar, but Gallagher could represent a slightly more cost-effective solution.
“No, no, of course not. I'm not satisfied,” Gallagher admitted during an interview with Spanish publication AS.
“I don't think anyone is if they're not playing as much as they'd like, but I'll keep working very hard to help the team whenever I have the chance, and hopefully more opportunities to be a starter will come.”
When asked if he will leave Atletico Madrid during the upcoming January transfer window, amid rumours of a Man Utd move, Gallagher replied: “I'm very happy here.
“My goal is to win titles with Atleti and I want to have a bigger role in the team. And, as I've said, I'm going to keep working as hard as I can to play more minutes and help the team.
“Sometimes it's difficult to get a few minutes on the pitch and show everything I can do. But, as I said, the most important thing is to do my best for the coach and the team, and that's what I'm trying to do right now. I'm already very settled. My girlfriend and I love living here. It's an amazing city and we're very happy.”
Conor Gallagher comments on England hopes
A key factor behind reports that Gallagher could join Man Utd is his current status in the England national team.
The 25-year-old has been excluded from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for all three of the international camps so far this season, while he has only played for his country on one occasion under his former Chelsea boss.
“Yes, of course. That's one of my goals,” Gallagher revealed after being asked if he is aiming for an England recall.
“I've spoken with Thomas Tuchel, and he's told me what he needs from me and what I have to do to get back into the team. And it seems that, right now, it's very difficult for me to reach that point.
“But, as I said before, I'll keep working as hard as I can to get more playing time and, hopefully, return to the national team.”
