Fabrizio Romano: Harvey Elliott is 'NOT HAPPY' at Aston Villa
Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott is 'not happy' at Aston Villa, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 22-year-old departed the Reds in the summer after a stunning U21 European Championship in search of game time. At Aston Villa, however, minutes have so far been few and far between.
A popular figure at Liverpool, Elliott has barely been able to win the affection of the Villa Park faithful because manager Unai Emery has not used him since giving him a four-minute cameo in a 2-0 Europa League win over Feyenoord on 2 October.
All told, Elliott has made just five appearances since joining the club. Emery has been unhappy with the youngster's style of play and believes that he needs more time to acclimatise to a very different footballing philosophy.
Emery values possession and control above all else and has bemoaned Elliott's desire to take risks and spring quick attacks as he was able to do at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.
Romano: Elliott is unhappy at Villa
In late September, Emery hooked Elliott at half-time in a game against Fulham, and this was seemingly a turning point in their relationship. Since then, the youngster has only made that aforementioned four-minute cameo against Feyenoord.
Unfortunately for the youngster, his removal from the team has coincided with a drastic improvement in form and results for the Birmingham club, giving Emery little incentive to utilise the summer signing.
It is important to note that Elliott's lack of minutes could have serious consequences for his future. He is only on loan, after all. When he signed, it seemed a foregone conclusion that his stay would be made permanent, as he only needs to play 10 games to trigger a purchase obligation.
However, the situation looks very different now. Unused in seven games, although one of them was against his parent club, murmors are growing that his loan could be cancelled in January. It has even been suggested that his exile is motivated by Villa's uncertain financial situation.
Whatever the case, it seems the situation is becoming increasingly untenable. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Elliot is, unsurprisingly, not happy about the current state of affairs.
"At the moment, it depends on his performances in training," Romano told GIVEMESPORT. "The situation is still not changing, and of course, Elliott is not happy."
Elliott will be one to watch in the coming weeks. If he continues to struggle for minutes, he may have to return to Liverpool, and they would have to keep him until the summer. Elliott made two appearances for the Reds before his move, so he can't play for any other club this season.
