Chelsea STUNNED by new Morgan Rogers release clause
Aston Villa are set to hand Morgan Rogers a massive release clause in a bid to fend off interest from Chelsea and other suitors, according to a report.
The England international is in line for a bumper new contract at Villa Park after establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League last season.
Although Rogers endured a slow start to the current campaign, Aston Villa nevertheless want to reward him with fresh terms to tie him to the club long-term in the face of widespread interest in his services.
In the summer, Chelsea attempted to reunite the 23-year-old with his good friend Cole Palmer, but Villa made it clear that he was not for sale. The Blues remain interested and have been frequently linked with a move for Rogers in 2026.
The current status of negotiations over his new contract is the subject of debate. Some have claimed that an agreement is close, while others insist that the discussions are nowhere near as advanced as reported.
Villa to hand Rogers a huge release clause
One thing is clear, though: Villa want to make sure that poaching Rogers will be incredibly difficult in the future. TEAMtalk reports that the Birmingham club are set to hand him a sizeable pay increase from £75,000 a week to £150,000.
Moreover, Villa will fit the attacking midfielder with a prohibitive release clause described as being close to £100 million (€114m). A transfer in that financial ballpark would make Rogers one of the most expensive players in Premier League history.
Despite concerns over Profitability and Sustainability Rules, as well as UEFA's Squad Cost Ratio rule, Villa are ready to push the boat out to get Rogers to sign a new contract.
In addition to Chelsea, the report claims that the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd are also keenly monitoring Rogers' development and his contract talks with new Villa director Roberto Olabe.
This big-name interest is unlikely to deter him from extending his stay in Birmingham, with Rogers said to have fully bought into Unai Emery's project, despite the season's rocky start.
