The incredibly young first-team squad at Stamford Bridge has unsurprisingly shown a number of frailties so far this season, however they are currently third in the Premier League table and look well-stocked to challenge for major honours in future years.

Despite critics of their transfer strategy, Chelsea have undoubtedly assembled a squad full to the brim with talented youngsters and if they continue adding to the core group of players currently in west London, they will be a force to be reckoned with very soon.

Furthermore, with Geovany Quenda, Emanuel Emegha and Dastan Patpaev all arriving to bolster Chelsea’s attack next summer, the Blues are likely to be among the favourites for Premier League glory in 2026-27.

Another player who could be set for a first-team role next campaign is summer signing Jesse Derry, who moved to Chelsea from Crystal Palace in July upon the expiration of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Derry completed a free transfer move to Chelsea this summer, although the Blues are expected to pay Crystal Palace a significant compensation fee following the teenager’s decision to reject a professional deal with Oliver Glasner’s side.

The exciting winger was courted by a host of top English clubs after deciding to leave Selhurst Park, but he opted to join Chelsea after a successful pitch from the Blues hierarchy.

Derry has excelled since his move to Stamford Bridge and he is firmly on course to be given first-team exposure at some point if his development continues.

A tricky winger with immense close control, a fantastic burst of acceleration and an eye for goal, Derry has already been widely compared to Jack Grealish and he excels when drifting inside from the left flank.

The teenager thrives in one-vs-one situations and he has already shown his proficiency in the final third since his move to west London.

After initially starting his Blues career as an impact substitute, the 18-year-old has firmly established himself as an integral member of Chelsea’s U21 side in recent weeks.

He has netted five goals and provided one assist in eight Premier League 2 appearances so far this term, while he has also scored three goals in three starts in the UEFA Youth League, including a brace versus Qarabag last week.

Derry’s form at Chelsea earned him an England U19 recall during the October international break, after missing the September camp, and he marked his return with a goal during the Young Lions’ 7-0 demolition of Wales.

The winger has once again been selected by boss Will Antwi for November internationals versus Lithuania, Latvia and Scotland, although he is the only forward named in the squad without first-team experience.

Max Dowman, Rio Ngumoha, Mikey Moore, Shumaira Mheuka, Jay Robinson and Jeremy Monga have all made senior club appearances, while Derry is still waiting to complete that career achievement. If his form at youth level continues, however, it won’t be long before he is handed a Chelsea debut by Maresca.
