Chelsea reportedly are ready to launch a sensational move for Marcus Rashford after the unwanted Manchester United star found a new lease on life at Barcelona.

Rashford joined Barca on loan in the summer and the forward has provided 13 goal contributions in 16 games across all competitions, leading to his reintegration into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after receiving just one cap in 2024.

Barca have an option to buy Rashford for around €30 million but, according to Catalan outlet El Nactional, there are still doubts about whether it’s worth paying that amount despite all parties being happy with the transfer so far.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a run in the team in the absence of Raphinha, who has been injured since September, but Barca are still said to be ‘unclear’ about what Rashford’s role will be once the Brazilian returns.

There are also some reservations that the money could be spent on a striker due to the ‘obsession’ towards finding a successor to Robert Lewandowski next summer, with Julian Alvarez said to be the club’s preferred target, although Chelsea are also said to be in the race for the Atletico Madrid star.

Rashford’s signing would likely consume Barcelona’s entire transfer budget and, with the uncertainty over his future, the situation has reportedly led to the player’s agent holding meetings with Chelsea and Tottenham over a move next summer.

Amorim doubles down on Rashford stance at Old Trafford

Rashford’s priority is still understood to be remaining at Barcelona but the England international is keeping his options open in case a permanent stay with the La Liga giants fails to materialise, particularly with his Man Utd future still confirmed to be non-existent.

Reports emerged this weekend that Ruben Amorim held a recent meeting with United officials where he reiterated he has no plans to bring Rashford back into his plans regardless of his resurgence on loan.

Rashford was quickly told after Amorim’s arrival last November that he would not play for United again, leading to his loan move to Aston Villa in January and an exclusion from the club’s first team squad upon his return in the summer.

However, United are allegedly hoping that Barcelona do not take up their option to sign Rashford as they believe his improved form could command a higher fee, particularly with Chelsea and Tottenham now reported to be in the picture, meaning his future may not be resolved until late into next summer once again.
