Kobbie Mainoo transfer away from Man Utd 'almost INEVITABLE'
It is 'almost inevitable' that Kobbie Mainoo will leave Manchester United in January if his lack of action persists, according to a report.
The 20-year-old requested a loan move away from Old Trafford in the summer window after realising that he would struggle for minutes under Ruben Amorim this season.
Forced to compete with captain Bruno Fernandes, who is unhappy about having to play in a deeper midfield role, Mainoo is fighting a losing battle and struggling for regular playing time.
The stubborn Amorim has shown no inclination to switch things up to better utilise the potential at his disposal, leaving his players frustrated and Mainoo sweating over his place in England's World Cup roster.
Not selected for Thomas Tuchel's recent squads, the youngster is still agitating for a loan move away in a bid to get minutes under his belt ahead of the tournament in North America.
Napoli favourites for Mainoo signing
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Mainoo will demand a transfer away from Man Utd in January if Amorim continues to ignore him in the coming weeks. Whether the under-fire coach survives until January is a different question, of course.
Although recent reports have spoken about keen interest from Spain, the Italian publication understands that Napoli are the favourites to sign Mainoo, following the success of Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.
Indeed, due to the inspired performances of his former Man Utd teammates, the report claims that it is 'almost inevitable' that the reigning Serie A champions would get the nod from the young midfielder.
Man Utd flat-out refused to entertain a potential departure of Mainoo in the summer, so it remains to be seen if they would be willing to change their stance in the winter. With still so much uncertainty hanging over Man Utd and Amorim, it is perhaps too early to make January predictions.
