Arsenal Transfer News Today: Quansah talks confirmed as €100m deal back on
All the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip from Arsenal, with the Gunners accelerating talks on multiple defensive options, including Jarell Quansah, while there is an intriguing update on Julian Alvarez.
Arsenal open Jarrel Quansah talks
Arsenal and Manchester United are in active contract talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a shock deal to sign England international centre-back Jarell Quansah, FootballTransfers has revealed.
Both Premier League giants are seeking reinforcements across their backline, with Arsenal desperate to increase their depth as Jurrien Timber faces “weeks” more on the sidelines.
Quansah’s ability to play both in the middle and on the right of defence has been decisive in Arsenal opening talks with the Bundesliga giants for the player, while Man Utd have been in contact with the player’s representatives over a move.
Jules Kounde update: Barcelona open to offers
Arsenal have also been linked with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde, and the Gunners have been told that the France international could leave Camp Nou, Mundo Deportivo reports.
Kounde is capable of operating on the right or central of the defence and would, therefore, be a suitable replacement for the injured Jurrien Timber.
Liverpool and Manchester City are also interested in the 27-year-old former Bordeaux and Sevilla player.
Ezri Konsa transfer reignited – but there’s a catch
Another potential centre-back target is Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, who has been on Arsenal’s shortlist for some time.
While it appeared the Gunners had given up on signing the England star, BBC Sport reports that the North London side are ready to revisit a deal for the 28-year-old.
The gap between the valuations of the player by the clubs is enormous, however. Villa have put an asking price of €70 million (£60m) on the player whereas Arsenal are not willing to go about €35m (£35m).
Julian Alvarez deal not dead
Arsenal are continuing to keep tabs on the situation of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, having been interested in him earlier in the window.
The Argentine seemed to have snubbed a move for the Emirates in favour of a deal with Barcelona, but Atleti have repeatedly told the former Manchester City man that there’s no prospect of completing that move.
TeamTalk reports that Arsenal are still in contact with the forward and have no intention of backing down until his future is resolved.
Any deal that takes place will cost upwards of €100m, with Real Madrid and Barca both having had bids of above this figure already rejected this summer.
Martinelli to Galatasaray latest: Deal difficult
Gabriel Martinelli continues to be linked with a move to Galatasaray, with Sky Sports transfer expert Florian Plettenberg confirming that there is still contact between the clubs.
The Super Lig side have made a bid worth €45 million, with Victor Osimhen’s name being discussed in these talks.
Martinelli is thought to be reticent to move to Turkey, however. Indeed, The Athletic reports that he has informed Arsenal that he does not want to join Galatasaray.
Nelson to follow Nwaneri? Winger wanted by Marseille
Reiss Nelson could be the next Arsenal player to move to Ligue 1 side Marseille, with FootMercato reporting that he could move to the south of France as Ethan Nwaneri did on loan last season.
OM have had a first bid for the player rejected, but with Igor Paixao heavily linked with a move away from the club, they are likely to revisit the case of Nelson.
The 26-year-old has spent his entire career at Arsenal but after initially showing much promise has faded in recent years, spending the last couple of seasons on loan at Fulham and Brentford, where he has struggled to impress.
