Manchester United have received a clear message from AS Monaco over the future of Lamine Camara.

The Red Devils remain in the market for a third midfield signing, with head coach Michael Carrick confirming that the club "need to keep pushing for more" after bringing in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Man Utd have refrained from splashing the cash on inflated deals and instead tried to be smart about their spending, which is why they opted for Tielemans and Santos over Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson.

Carrick, though, clearly feels that he still needs more bodies if the team is to cope with Champions League football this season. The problem is that, so far, Man Utd have not found the right market opportunity.

They have been linked on and off with Monaco midfielder Camara this summer, with recent reports suggesting that they were still attentive to his situation amid a belief that he could be the "next Aurelien Tchouameni."

However, AS Monaco have now made it clear that they are in no rush to sell. Having reportedly rebuffed a club-record €50 million offer from Crystal Palace, the principality club want to keep Camara for another season.

According to Monaco-Matin (via Sport Witness), the Ligue 1 outfit have hiked the 22-year-old's price tag in a bid to deter his suitors from making new approaches. It would now require an extraordinary offer to get them to sell.

Proposals in the region of €60m would be "deemed insufficient" and rejected. Crucially, Camara is understood to be content to stay and is not forcing a move this summer.

Monaco therefore find themselves in a very strong negotiating position, and the chances of a potential transfer to Man Utd are dwindling. The Red Devils would have to more than double his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €33.2m to strike a deal.

It seems unlikely that they would be prepared to do so given that they are determined to remain disciplined this summer. It is unlikely that Camara will be playing his football at Old Trafford this season.

Staying at Monaco can only be beneficial for his development, though. The club are pointing to Maghnes Akliouche as an example that staying for an additional year is not necessarily a bad thing.

The France international fielded interest from several high-profile clubs last year, but he ultimately stayed put and just joined the reigning European champions PSG.

If Camara continues developing on his current trajectory, he will also be playing for one of Europe's biggest clubs next year.
