Sesko causes Man Utd headache as transfer request submitted
Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly desperate to leave the club during the January transfer window following the summer arrival of Benjamin Sesko.
Sesko, 22, was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the 2024-25 campaign, however he eventually joined Man Utd after Mikel Arteta’s side opted to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP instead.
The Slovenia international endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford, however he has scored two goals in his past two Premier League appearances and he has firmly established himself as Ruben Amorim’s preferred centre forward over the last month.
By comparison, Zirkzee has seen his game time diminish significantly so far this campaign, despite the departure of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli in August.
The Dutchman has only racked up 82 minutes of action across all competitions in 2025-26 and he has already been an unused substitute in four Premier League matches this term.
The 24-year-old attracted significant transfer interest from Italy over the summer and he has now decided to leave Man Utd in January, according to TBR Football.
Joshua Zirkzee to leave Man Utd?
Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has reportedly informed Zirkzee that he needs to be playing regular club football in order to be selected for the 2026 World Cup and, as a result, the Dutchman has opted to pursue a January transfer.
Everton and West Ham United are both keeping tabs on Zirkzee’s situation at Man Utd, as per reports, while TBR Football claim that clubs in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands are also likely to battle for his signature.
However, Zirkzee has only scored seven goals in 53 appearances since joining Man Utd from Bologna in 2024, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has decreased by over €10 million since March amid his underwhelming form at Old Trafford.
