Forgotten Man Utd star to demand January transfer after Amorim humiliation
One of Manchester United’s forgotten stars is eyeing a move away from Old Trafford in January after finding himself on the fringes of Ruben Amorim’s team this season.
Amorim has struggled to find real form or consistency with his side so far, with United sitting tenth in the Premier League after seven matches and still yet to get the best out of the majority of their key players.
Yet, despite their struggles, Amorim has been reluctant to include Joshua Zirkzee in his plans and the Dutchman has seen just 74 minutes of Premier League football this season – the second least of any player who has featured this season.
Having joined United from Bologna last summer, Zirkzee had a difficult first campaign in English football and, according to Gazzetta, the 24-year-old is looking for a return to Italy in order to ensure he does not miss out on the Netherlands squad for next summer’s World Cup.
Roma are said to be in ‘pole position’ to sign Zirkzee in January but Como’s financial resources could give them the edge in any transfer battle, with ‘several clubs’ in Italy and the Premier League believed to be interested in the forward.
Although Roma boss Gian Piero Giasparini is keen on signing Zirkzee, Roma would prefer a loan move for financial reasons, giving Como the edge due to their means of being able to afford a permanent deal – something which United would prefer.
Zirzkee’s United dream turning to nightmare after humiliation under Amorim
United had high hopes for Zirzkee after his €42.5 million transfer last summer but the ex-Bayern Munich star scored just three times in 32 Premier League games during his debut campaign.
The situation saw a visibly-emotional Zirzkee jeered by United fans after being subbed off by Amorim in the first half of a match against Newcastle in January and he has been a bit-part figure in the team ever since.
United have been open to his departure for the right price, with Zirzkee still having more than three years remaining on his contract, but their hand may be forced if the player looks to push for a move due to his unhappiness.
Having thrived in Serie A at Bologna, a return to the league would be Zirkzee’s ideal choice, particularly after seeing the likes of Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund thrive after leaving United to move to Italy.
