Chelsea star RAGES at Maresca and targets January exit
Chelsea striker Marc Guiu is reportedly eager to rejoin Sunderland during the January transfer window amid his lack of game time so far this season.
The Spain U21 international joined Regis Le Bris’ side on loan in early August and he made three appearances for the club, scoring once, before being recalled by Chelsea on Transfer Deadline Day.
Guiu was expected to spend the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light, in order to play regular minutes in the Premier League, but Chelsea opted to bring him back to west London following a hamstring injury suffered by Liam Delap during their 2-0 victory over Fulham on 30 August.
However, the Spaniard is growing increasingly irritated by his lack of game time since returning to Stamford Bridge and he is eager to rejoin Sunderland in January.
That is according to a bombshell report from GiveMeSport, who state that Guiu was “particularly frustrated” by Enzo Maresca’s decision to select Tyrique George as Chelsea’s centre forward against Benfica in the Champions League last week.
The Cobham academy graduate is naturally a winger, yet he was chosen to lead the line ahead of Guiu, who scored six goals in seven Europa Conference League games last season.
Guiu was rewarded with his first Chelsea appearance of the campaign versus Liverpool on Saturday evening, but his cameo against the Reds means he will only be able to join Sunderland in January as players are permitted to play for just two clubs during the same season.
Marc Guiu to rejoin Sunderland?
The aforementioned Delap is expected to return to full fitness by the end of November, and Guiu reportedly wants to leave Chelsea in January in order to maximise his game time for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
However, his current employers have no intention of sanctioning a permanent departure, as per GiveMeSport, as they believe he has the potential to become a first-team regular in west London.
Furthermore, Sunderland reacted to Guiu’s return to Chelsea by signing Ajax striker Brian Brobbey for €20m on Transfer Deadline Day and although he is yet to start a Premier League match for his new club, the Dutchman’s presence could prevent Guiu from rejoining the Black Cats.
