Chelsea receive transfer message as huge contract AGREED
Jordan Pickford is expected to sign a new long-term contract at Everton this week and Chelsea have been tipped as the only club capable of hijacking the deal.
The England international has been with the Toffees since arriving from Sunderland back in 2017 and he has been heavily linked with a big-money transfer away from the club on a number of occasions throughout his eight-year stint on Merseyside.
Chelsea have been tipped to pursue a deal several times, while Manchester United have also been admirers of the 31-year-old in the past.
However, Pickford is now set to commit his future to Everton by signing a new long-term contract this week, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce.
The Englishman’s current deal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is due to expire in 2027, but Everton have acted swiftly to tie him down to a new contract to ease concerns of a sale next summer.
Jordan Pickford to Chelsea?
When asked if he is surprised by Pickford’s decision to stay at Everton despite their struggles over the past few years, former England striker Darren Bent told talkSPORT (via Goodison News): “Unless it’s a side in the Champions League every season competing, he’s probably thinking ‘where else?’
“He’s settled there [Everton]. If Chelsea come calling, why not? But they might not. That’s the problem.”
While Chelsea have experienced issues with Robert Sanchez in between the sticks over the past 12 months, they are expected to retain faith with the Spaniard until they believe Mike Penders is ready to play first-team football for the Blues.
Penders joined Chelsea from Genk last summer and he was sent on loan to sister club Strasbourg in late July in order to boost his development as a goalkeeper.
He is still only 20 years old, however Chelsea believe he has the talent to become one of the best goalkeepers in world football and he is one of the key reasons they have reportedly decided against a new number one in 2026.
