Chelsea edge closer to FIRST January signing after successful scouting mission
Chelsea are interested in making Strasbourg right-back Guela Doue their first signing of the January transfer window, according to a surprising report.
The 23-year-old was widely tipped to complete a move to AC Milan over the summer, however the deal collapsed after the Italian giants saw several official bids turned down by Liam Rosenior’s side.
Doue, the older brother of Paris Saint-Germain star Desire, has already notched one goal and two assists in four Ligue 1 matches so far this season, and his form has attracted the attention of Chelsea.
That is according to CaughtOffside, who claim the Blues sent scouts to watch Doue in action for their sister club Strasbourg during their 3-3 draw versus PSG on Friday evening.
Enzo Maresca’s side have also watched Doue in action throughout the 2025-26 campaign and they have reportedly identified him as a possible January signing, despite the presence of Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong.
Chelsea face Guela Doue competition
Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford have also been closely watching Doue so far this season, as per CaughtOffside, although Chelsea hold a significant advantage in the race for his signature due to the fact they own Strasbourg.
AC Milan remain interested too, while RB Leipzig and Real Betis are understood to be monitoring his progress at Strasbourg ahead of a possible pursuit next year.
The Ligue 1 side are expected to demand a transfer fee in excess of €30 million for Doue, who joined the club from Stade Rennais for €6m last year.
In addition to the Ivory Coast international, Chelsea have also been linked with a surprise January move for former Brentford striker Ivan Toney, although the club aren’t expected to be in the market for a new goalkeeper or a new central defender during the mid-season transfer window.
