Chelsea have been told that signing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo could be relatively straightforward due to the existence of a release clause.

The Ghana international is one of the hottest commodities in the Premier League right now, following a red-hot start to the season. Semenyo already impressed last term, which prompted Man Utd to hold talks over a summer move, as revealed by The Transfers Podcast last month.

The move to Old Trafford collapsed, which allowed Bournemouth to tie Semenyo down to a new contract, but this only postponed the inevitable. The winger is expected to be on the move in 2026.

The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and now also reigning champions Liverpool are credited with an interest in the 25-year-old. According to talkSPORT, Semenyo has a release clause in his new Bournemouth deal, making a departure next year even more likely.

However, the exact value of that clause has yet to be disclosed. Capable of playing on either flank, Semenyo would represent a massive upgrade on Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens, who has yet to come to grips with life in the Premier League after his €56 million move in the summer.

Gittens 'out of place' at Chelsea

Speaking to Metro, former Arsenal striker Alan Smith questioned Chelsea's decision to spend big on Gittens, who had never managed to impress over the course of a full season at Borussia Dortmund.

"Who knows how Chelsea feel when it comes to these comings and goings," Smith said when asked if Chelsea could regret selling Noni Madueke to Arsenal, with the England star impressing prior to his injury.

"Jamie Gittens hasn’t been an upgrade, though. He’s just been disappearing up blind alleys, and we’ve not seen the best form from him yet. That was a strange move. It felt unusual at the time, and it looks even more out of place now. But that’s Chelsea at the moment, isn’t it?"

Smith also dismissed suggestions that the Blues could mount a credible Premier League title challenge this season. "As good as they were against Liverpool the other week, I don’t think Chelsea will be in it," he opined, predicting a three-horse race between Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City.
