Maresca made a whopping 10 changes to the side who beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, however it made no difference as the west London giants ran away with proceedings in a comfortable night at Stamford Bridge.

After a somewhat shaky start, Chelsea were helped by a red card to Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor, who was sent off following a VAR review after a poor challenge on Blues attacker Facundo Buonanotte.

Minutes later, Guiu opened the scoring from close range following a smart assist from Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana. In the process, he became just the fourth player in Champions League history to score for two different clubs as a teenager.

Guiu netted for Barcelona during a 3-2 defeat to Royal Antwerp in December 2023, aged 17, and the 19-year-old got off the mark for Chelsea in the competition on Wednesday.

After scoring against Ajax, he joined an exclusive club that also features Erling Haaland (RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund), Kylian Mbappe (AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain), and George Ilenikhena (Royal Antwerp and AS Monaco).

Guiu was sent on loan to Sunderland in August, however he was recalled by Chelsea following an injury to Liam Delap and despite being deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues hierarchy this summer, he now looks ready to lead the line for the foreseeable future.

Chelsea’s record-breaking win over Ajax

Guiu wasn’t the only Chelsea player to write his name into the history books either.

The Spaniard initially became Chelsea’s youngest ever Champions League goalscorer when he netted their opener versus Ajax on Wednesday evening, however he was soon eclipsed by Estevao Willian when the Brazilian wonderkid slotted home a penalty in first-half stoppage time.

Tyrique George then scored his first Champions League goal in the second-half to ensure Chelsea became the first club in history to have three teenagers score in a single game in Europe’s elite club competition.

They also became the first Premier League team with three different teenage goalscorers in any competition since 1992-93.

Meanwhile, Jamie Gittens became the youngest Chelsea player to ever register five or more chances in a Champions League fixture - breaking the record previously held by Eden Hazard.

In addition, Reggie Walsh became Chelsea’s youngest ever Champions League player and the second-youngest English player to feature in the competition - behind only Jack Wilshere.
