Ruben Amorim's wife admits 'sleepless nights' over Man Utd abuse
Ruben Amorim's wife has opened up about the abuse her husband has received from fans and admits it has caused some sleepless nights.
Amorim is under heavy pressure after a dismal start to the season at Man Utd, with Fabrizio Romano admitting earlier on Tuesday that his job as manager is "absolutely not safe".
It is widely believed that if results do not improve fast then Amorim could be sacked as manager in October.
As a result of the poor performances and results, Amorim has been heavily criticised by the media and fans, and his wife has opened up about the toll it has had on her husband.
What did Ruben Amorim's wife say?
“Ruben has been having sleepless nights since he came to England," Maria Joao told Prime Video Sport.
"It’s never easy. People need to understand that, we’re disappointed at the abuse he gets. I asked him, Is all of this worth it, he said that’s what he signed up for."
Man Utd have picked up just seven points from their first six games in the Premier League and find themselves in 14th position.
They were also humiliatingly eliminated from the League Cup by fourth division Grimsby.
Amorim was appointed as manager of Man Utd in November 2024, succeeding the sacked Erik ten Hag.
There were high hopes for the manager after he impressed at Sporting Lisbon, leading the team to five trophies - including two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles.
He also helped develop a host of talented players, including new Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres.
But Amorim has failed badly to replicate his success at Sporting at Man Utd.
United finished the 2024-25 season in 15th position, failed to win a trophy and endured arguably the worst campaign in the club's history for over 50 years.
The 40-year-old has one of the worst win percentages in Man Utd's history at under 37 per cent.
