Manchester United are reportedly set to open contract extension talks with Harry Maguire as they look to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

The England defender, who hasn’t featured for his country since September 2024, has divided opinion throughout his time at Old Trafford, but Ruben Amorim is keen to retain the 32-year-old amid concerns over a Bosman exit next summer.

Maguire’s current contract is set to expire in 2026 and The Sun claim that he would be open to a departure next year.

Two Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly weighing up a late bid for the ex-Leicester City defender before the summer window shuts on 23 September, but Maguire would only consider moving to the Middle East next summer.

Despite this, TEAMtalk now claim that Maguire has performed an immediate u-turn, with the Englishman “determined” to continue playing for Man Utd.

In addition, Amorim wants Maguire to be part of the “backbone” of his first-team squad and there is increasing optimism that he will sign a new contract at Old Trafford before his existing deal expires next year.

The 32-year-old made 40 appearances across all competitions for Man Utd last season, but he is yet to start a Premier League match this term.

Maguire came off the bench versus both Arsenal and Fulham, while he was an unused substitute during the 3-2 victory over Burnley on 30 August, with Luke Shaw, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro starting all three games so far this campaign.

Man Utd to sell Andre Onana?

Although Man Utd are unlikely to sanction the sale of Maguire to a club in Saudi Arabia this month, they could be set to offload Andre Onana to the Middle East.

The Cameroon international has lost his starting place to Altay Bayindir so far this season and the arrival of Senne Lammens on Transfer Deadline Day has pushed Onana down to third-choice in the pecking order.

A late move to the Saudi Pro League is therefore on the cards, with a number of clubs eyeing the possibility of signing the Man Utd star.
