The 22-year-old, who moved to the City Ground from Newcastle United last summer, has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders over the past 12 months and he is now a fully-fledged England international.

Anderson starred as the England U21 squad won the European Championship in June and he was rewarded with his first ever senior call-up during the September international break.

The former Scotland youth star subsequently produced two Man of the Match displays versus Andorra and Serbia, and he is now widely considered to be in pole position to start alongside Declan Rice at the 2026 World Cup.

His performances for England will no doubt have caught the attention of multiple top European clubs, and The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope even believes that Anderson, who is the same age as Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham, “will be the best midfielder of his generation.”

Man Utd are eager to land the 22-year-old during the January transfer window and Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that Ruben Amorim’s side are already preparing an opening offer of €58m for the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Man Utd want Elliot Anderson

Anderson is reportedly seen as a cheaper and more viable option than Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, who is expected to cost in excess of €115m (£100m) next year.

Man Utd attempted to land the Cameroon international this summer, but they were priced out of a move and reports indicate they are likely to return with a concrete offer during the 2026 summer transfer window amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder.

However, Anderson has now been identified as a suitable alternative and Man Utd are eager to test Nottingham Forest’s resolve with an official bid in January.

Despite this, Ange Postecoglou’s side are unlikely to grant a sale mid-season, especially considering Anderson’s current contract at the City Ground isn’t due to expire until 2029.
