And United will be in even more of a rush to offload Onana after a massive blunder playing for Cameroon on Tuesday.

Cameroon lost 1-0 to Cape Verde in World Cup qualifying thanks to a 54th minute winner from Rocha Livramento.

Onana was panned for his part in the goal as Livramento ran half the length of the pitch to score a one-on-one, with the goalkeeper barely coming a few yards off his line to narrow the angle.

It was a bizarre piece of goalkeeping from Onana that Man Utd fans have become too used to in the last two seasons.

Onana to Trabzonspor

Onana has accepted the move to Trabzonspor and it is expected to go through in the next 24 hours. It is a one-season loan with no option to buy.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the transfer will be made official on Thursday.

United have attempted all summer to offload Onana after two miserable seasons at Old Trafford.

However, United failed to find a buyer in Europe before the end of the main summer transfer window on Monday.

Despite this, United still brought in a new number one on Premier League Deadline Day in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Although the main European window closed, there were still places such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia that were open for a while longer.

And United have now managed to find a club to take Onana on in Trabzonspor.

Man Utd bought Onana for a fee of around €55 million from Inter in 2023.

Big things were expected of the Cameroonian, who had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23, playing a key role in their run to the final.

He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana endured an error-prone season in 2023-24, with United having their worst defensive record and most goals conceded in decades.

He made a string of mistakes, in particular in the Champions League group stage elimination in games against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.

Last season Onana improved a touch earlier in the campaign but he reverted to his first season's form in 2025 as United went trophyless and finished in 15th.

And this campaign he was dropped for Altay Bayindir for the first three Premier League games of the season in a clear sign his future at United is up. Bayindir has also struggled, leading to the signing of Lammens.

Onana did play in the EFL Cup game against Grimsby but disappointed in a shock exit on penalties.
