The 40-year-old has endured a tough start to life as Red Devils boss and he has been heavily linked with a departure in recent weeks following an underwhelming start to the new season.

Man Utd backed Amorim in the market this summer with the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon for a combined price of €250.7m, but they have only won one of their opening four matches in all competitions this campaign and they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two outfit Grimsby Town on 27 August.

The Red Devils suffered their worst ever finishing position in the Premier League era last year (15th) and Amorim is now under immense pressure to improve results.

In fact, Gallas believes that Amorim will be lucky to still be Man Utd’s manager by Christmas.

Ruben Amorim to be sacked by Man Utd?

“He looks lost. I don't think his body language and emotional response are giving a good impression to his players or the Manchester United fans,” Gallas told The Express.

“Looking at him, I'm not sure he'll make it to Christmas, to be honest, because it feels like United are one poor performance or defeat away from a crisis.

“The Grimsby match was a real low point, for both United and Amorim. His work at Sporting was impressive, but managing a club like United in the Premier League is a massive step up.”

Gallas added: “The truth is that United were struggling when he arrived and they're still struggling now. This was supposed to be the season where things changed at the club.

“But things are still going poorly. Perhaps the pressure is too much for both the manager and the players. Maybe there are too many big egos in the squad.

“Where he was before, you can imagine that the Sporting players didn't have huge egos, so he has to deal with a new management problem. The players at Sporting weren't as good as United, but he could get them to follow him and be more effective.

“Now he's got so much pressure on his shoulders, and he appears to be an emotional character. He tried to explain to Kobbie Mainoo that he has to fight for his position. Maybe he doesn't follow the instructions from his manager, maybe he doesn't run enough. But instead, Mainoo wanted to leave.”

Gallas continued: “Right now, Amorim looks like [Erik] Ten Hag all over again. The job is all about results at this point and they lost to Grimsby. That is a shocking, poor result. The club can't afford to lose on the pitch, and it can't afford to lose any more off it.

“United have the same problems as any other mid-table side and that's what they are these days. Sometimes their players lift their games and compete against the best, and they look great.

“Then they buy players who look good elsewhere, but with the added pressure there is at United, they crumble. Maybe for Amorim, he's finding the pressure too much himself.”
