United put Garnacho up for sale after the player fell out of favour with the club and manager Ruben Amorim.

Garnacho was left out of United's preseason tour of the United States and did not feature in the opening Premier League games of the season before moving to Chelsea.

There were reports of a big falling-out between him and Amorim, with The Athletic even reporting that the manager told him at the start of September: “You better hope you have a good agent this summer.”

What did Garnacho say?

Garnacho has now opened up on those last few difficult months at Man Utd.

“I think it was a difficult moment there, just training alone. But I have nothing bad to say about the club, my old club Manchester United," Garnacho said after Chelsea's 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“It was just a bad moment in life but now I’m very happy to be here and to play in this competition and to get the three points today.”

Garnacho has had a mixed start to life at Chelsea, having not yet started a Premier League game for a team in bad form domestically.

The 21-year-old Garnacho was one of the few bright lights of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United.

He was one of the breakout stars in the Premier League in 2022-23, making eight goal contributions from 10 starts and 29 appearances.

He had a string of memorable performances, including the winner against Real Sociedad in the Europa League which made him the youngest foreign player to ever score for Man Utd in European competition.

Garnacho broke a string of records, and also starred in the Manchester derby, assisting Marcus Rashford’s winner in the 2-1 victory over Man City.

In 2023-24 Garnacho continued to impress, with 10 goals in all competitions. He scored in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Man City, hit a memorable brace in the 4-3 victory over Chelsea and scored the goal of the season with a stunning bicycle kick against Everton.

Last season Garnacho saw his star shine less bright, with just six goals and two assists in 36 Premier League games.

He is now hoping to rebuild his career at Chelsea.
