Everton are still hoping to add to David Moyes’ squad, despite the transfer window having shut, with a former Real Madrid player on the Toffees’ radar.

Although the deadline to complete transfers has past, clubs are still allowed to recruit free agents so long as they were released by their previous sides prior to the deadline.

Everton want to take advantage of this rule to sign full-back Sergio Reguilon, who was most recently with Tottenham Hotspur.

Reguilon was released by new Spurs boss Thomas Frank at the end of his contract in June, and is currently weighing up his options.

While Everton are in the hunt for the Spain international star, Football Insider adds that Sevilla and Real Sociedad are considered to be the favourites to land the 28-year-old, who has also spent time at Manchester United and Atletico Madrid on loan.

Moyes wants additional cover in the full-back areas and Reguilon is one of the most attractive options on the free agent market.

Reguilon: An under-rated force in the Premier League?

Reguilon would offer rotation cover for Everton were he to sign for the club, according to data analytics firm SciSports.

While he would not arrive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as a likely starter, this is not the role that Moyes has envisaged for him. Instead, he would simply act as cover for Vitaliy Mykolenko in an area where Everton have no obvious alternative for the Ukraine international star.

During the previous season in which he managed at least 900 minutes of Premier League action, Reguilon was a solid option for Man Utd and Brentford, although he regularly featured as a left-sided midfielder for the Bees.

While deployed as a full-back at Man Utd, his attacking qualities were to the fore as he performed strongly in terms of his crossing and ability to win the ball back high up the field.

The evidence certainly points to Reguilon being a solid alternative to Mykolenko at Everton.
