Vinicius Junior’s departure from Real Madrid could come about as soon as the January transfer window, with the Brazil international increasingly unhappy with life at the Bernabeu.

Life under Xabi Alonso has proven to be complicated for Vini Jr, and after an angry outburst when he was replaced by Rodrygo 77 minutes into a 2-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has seen his role in the Real Madrid squad diminished since the change of coach in the summer, despite scoring two goals and creating two more in La Liga already this term.

“It's true that he came off the pitch when he was feeling best and I could have waited a bit to replace him, but I understood that we needed fresh players to maintain control,” Alonso said after the game.

“Vinicius wanted to stay on because he was feeling good. Mastantuono too, for example. Angry? He wasn't very happy, but neither was Franco. It happens to everyone, but I'm very happy with Vinicius' performance. The schedule is demanding and we have to keep going.”

While the head coach has taken a pragmatic view of Vini’s anger, the player himself is far less impressed.

El Chiringuito claims that: “If there’s no change in the situation of Vinicius, he could leave in January.

“If he doesn’t feel like an important player between now and January, things will happen. And if they don’t happen in January, it’s guaranteed that I don’t think Vinicius will still be at Real Madrid in the summer.”

Vini Jr faces ‘new’ issue at Real Madrid

Real Madrid legend Jorge Valdano hit out at the striker on Movistar.

“These attitudes being displayed in public are not healthy,” he complained.

“Vinicius has been well supported by Real Madrid. He’s fought against the world. The club backed him in this fight.

“But this is a new issue. Vinicius is no longer angry against the world. He’s angry with Xabi Alonso and the leaders at Real Madrid have always put the club before the player.”

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League are likely to take an interest in the forward, given that they have long been linked with a big-money move.

The player, meanwhile, is susceptible to leave because his contract runs out in June 2027, giving Real Madrid a comparatively short window to profit fully from him.
