'Best player in the world' CONFIRMS €70m Chelsea offer
Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos has officially confirmed why he decided to reject the advances of Saudi Arabia this summer.
The 21-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge in June, following a hugely successful loan spell at Strasbourg, but he was heavily linked with a permanent departure amid immense interest from multiple clubs across world football.
Manchester United reportedly made an official approach during talks with Chelsea over a deal for Alejandro Garnacho, while West Ham United submitted an offer worth €53 million in an attempt to bolster their midfield via the addition of the Brazilian.
However, the most significant interest came from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadsiah.
Despite this, he opted to reject the advances of the Saudi Arabian club in favour of fighting for a starting place under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
Andrey Santos confirms Saudi Arabia offer
While on international duty with Brazil, Santos confirmed that he has rejected the chance to join Al-Qadsiah before the Saudi Pro League transfer window closes on 23 September.
“The offer did arrive, but I immediately declined because of my dream and main goal, which is the World Cup,” Santos told Trivela.
“I know that being at Chelsea and in the Premier League gives me better chances than in Saudi Arabia. That was the main factor in my response to them.”
When asked about his preferred position on the pitch, the Brazil midfielder added: “I really enjoy playing defensive midfielder; I even think it's my main position, because I grew up as a defensive midfielder.
“But when I moved up to Vasco, it was as a defensive midfielder. At Chelsea, I play a bit further forward, but I feel comfortable playing in both positions.”
Santos, who was dubbed “the best player in the world” by Strasbourg team-mate Diego Moreira last season, is yet to start a Premier League match for Chelsea, although he has featured in each of their opening three fixtures of the 2025-26 campaign.
