Casemiro set to leave Man Utd as Amorim makes major transfer decision
Manchester United have already begun to plan for next summer, with Casemiro among the high-profile stars in line to be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Casemiro is in the final year of his contract and, while United have an option to extend for a further season, they are unlikely to take it up due to his age and form, combined with his status as one of the club’s highest earners.
Instead, United are expected to spend big on a midfielder to replace him, with the likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton all considered top targets for Ruben Amorim.
However, while Casemiro could be released, The Sun report that Harry Maguire may be offered a new deal, having triggered a one-year extension in his contract in the summer in order to keep him until 2026.
United are also expected to finally cut their losses on Jadon Sancho – currently on loan at Aston Villa – despite also having an option to extend his deal, with the club desperate to get his wages off the books permanently.
Tyrell Malacia will also be released when his contract expires next summer unless he is sold in January, while veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also expected to leave at the end of the campaign.
Sancho and Casemiro headline expected Man Utd departures
While Casemiro remains a regular feature in Ruben Amorim’s first team, United had been hoping to cash in on him this summer and could still allow the 33-year-old to leave in January if interest from the Saudi Pro League manifests.
United will also end Sancho’s disastrous tenure with the club and allow the 25-year-old to leave on a free five years after he signed for €85 million, having turned down multiple permanent moves away during the summer.
Maguire, meanwhile, has proven himself as a crucial squad player for Amorim after a disastrous run of form previously, with United reportedly turning down approaches for him in the summer.
Malacia has been training with the under-21 squad after being told he was not part of Amorim’s plans, with the 25-year-old having no suitors following multiple seasons of long-term injury problems.
Heaton has already begun to study for his coaching badges and the 40-year-old is expected to end his playing career when his contract expires next summer after five years as a backup at Old Trafford.
